Favorite Memory:
My favorite memories were of the close friendships we all had. Even now, 255 years later, anyone we went to school with is so special. Even if we haven't seen them for 34 years or so.

Things I remember fondly -  whitewashing the "D", Scorpionettes, the teen club, the "flush", football, basketball, & baseball games, track meets, slumber parties, drama class, Miss Wadley (French & Spanish), Mrs. Platero, getting into the movies for 25 cents (15 if you said you were under 12), and taking Tom Wooley's t-bird for a spin at a car wash. I told him I had a license and know he almost had a heart attack as I drove off the curb and was gone in a flash. I'd had one driver's ed class with Mr. Boyett.

My least favorite memory was spending my years at DHS not having a first name, but being known as "Safranek's sister".

Biography
I would need to write a book to mention all that I've done since high school. But, won't bore you with it. I'm now a graphic designer and work out of my home -- SCRIBBLES, ink. I do logos, silkscreen t-shirts and items and create websites for clients. All of what I do is on http://www.rottymom.com. I'm also the mother of a Rottweiler and a Bullmastiff, two human grown children, one certified angel and have five grandchildren, four boys and a girl. I still keep in touch with Bill Safranek who graduated in '62 and Jon Safranek who would have been with the Class of '66. We moved in my senior year because my dad retired and civilians were kicked off base. I wasn't too happy about it.

I have great memories of Desert High, especially with the friends I have just mentioned. After leaving Edwards, we moved to Utah, then to Colorado where I have been ever since. I married after high school. I have 2 daughter's and one son. I also have 2 granddaughter's who are the joy of my life. I have lived in Loveland, CO. for the past 30 years. I am an Administrative Assistant for Hewlett Packard. I have been with the company 24 years. I attended the Desert High Reunion last year, 1996.
I would love to hear from any one who attended Desert High.

Update: This might be a repeat. My favorite memories of Edwards were my very special friends, Connie Beckett, Yvonne Peachey, Cathy Norton, Louise Babine, & Sandi Safranek. Also being in on the drill team, cheerleading and being a sign carrier.

Jay Dickerson

Favorite Memory
John and Jim Baker, Gloria and Franny Jamrozy, Georgia Stubbs, Mike Statz, Carl Ousley, Paul (Red) Healey from Bakersfield, Stan Duell, Anita Wilson, Bill Johnson, and the many, many parties that were had. I know there were many others but age has set in and right now I'm not sure where the year book is.

Biography
I stayed around the Lancaster area working aero-space and automotive until my divorce from the first wife, Alice Baker (Rosemond), was final. I joined the Army to escape the draft and went to helicopter flight school. Went to Vietnam in 1970 just before marrying for the second time, Josie. Made it back from that conflict and got divorced the second time in 1973 while stationed in San Antonio flying med-evac. Married my current wife, Betty, in 1975. We had two tours in Germany with a short time at Ft. Lewis, Washington in between. Finally retired from the Army in 1989 in Colorado Springs, CO. I am now working for the National Mapping and Imagery Agency here in St. Louis, MO. We have two children from the current marriage. Kerry is our 25 year old daughter and her and Matt, her husband, have given us a great granddaughter, Bailey who is 2 years old. Jeff is our 20 year old son who is still at home and trying to decide what he wants to do with his life. Sounds like his Dad when I was that age. There is also my first son, Ray, from my first marriage. He is married and living in Simi Valley, CA.

CLIFFORD ASH

Favorite Memory
The people. The sports teams. The wind. Nothing like having to pitch or vault into it. The teen-club. Coaches Butler and Boyett.

Biography
I personally don't think anyone thought I was a nerd. Most probably an idiot would fit better. Left for college for lack of any better ideas in '63. Baseball scholarship to a jc in Cisco, Texas. Hurt my arm on first day of spring practice by having to pitch a 32 degree night game against Ranger JC. End of season. School only played 8 games and we had to by our own gas to get to them. Didn't have a team the following year. This was Texas. Football got all the money. After 6 semesters in a JC, I fell in lust. In order to marry, I had to find work. The Army was looking, so I got a job. Went to OCS became a tank commander then an airplane driver. SEA fracas '68-'69. Germany '69-'71 Home, divorce, out all in one week. Bummed for 2 years. Got back into flying in '73. Started crop dusting in '74 and this will be my 29th year. Re-married in '81 to a special lady that works harder than I ever did! She is a general manager for Luby's cafeterias and I follow her everywhere. Living in Hattiesburg, Ms. at present. Two step-kids in Arizona and Britt (mine) in the army in Seattle. Would be a pleasure to hear from any of you guys. I kept contact with Pat Lewis for a few years ,but have since lost it. Last I heard she had 5 boys! Good luck and tailwinds to all, Cliff

Favorite Memory
Road trips with the band and the basketball team.

Biography
Think back, one of our favorite tunes was "Sleepwalk" by Santo & Johnny - it still brings great memories today. For those of you who lived with me in those exciting days of yesteryear,I was in the class of 1963, but relocated to San Antonio, Texas after my freshman year (1959-1960) at Desert High. The experiences and friendships from those days are cherished memories. Who could forget some of our special teachers, Mrs. Jo Andrews or Mr. Charles Crum. Since leaving Edwards, I graduated from Alamo Heights High School (1963) and the University of Texas (1967), and served a little over four years in the USAF during Vietnam action. I have been a commercial banking executive for 28 years, with the last 17 years devoted to treasury management marketing, for which I hold credentials as a certified cash manger and a securities representative. My wife Debbie and I have two daughters, ages 13 and 10. I also have a grown son from my first marriage and two grand-children.

A side note - played against some of my former Scorpion team mates while over there, weird and fun. Came back to the states to Virginia and attended the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School. I am now a Senior Structural Designer and Field Engineer building US Navy ships. My wife and I also own a small business which is finally started to show a profit. I would love to hear from any of you. Look forward to hearing from you

Sandi remember when we found that "bomb" thing in your garage and it turned out to be a big bullet of some sort. And the talent show. And the doughnuts and food stuffs at break time. The drillettes and drill team for which I wasn't very good, but tried hard. Thanks to Babs Berkow who worked with me. The away games. I could go on and on but here is my bio.

Favorite Memory
My friends are my best memories of Desert. Anna, Chris, Donna, Susan and Sandi were the best! Favorite teacher was Mr. Starr...he was the reason I got a degree in US history! Desert was just a great place to go to school. We knew everyone and had such good, safe fun.

Biography
I had to leave Edwards the day after graduation! I went to Cal State Long Beach and got my degree and a teaching credential. In '68 I married my husband George who is now a retired fire Capt. We have two adult sons, Brian and Brent. I retired from teaching special education at Fountain Valley High School in 2001, and George and I are really enjoying our retirement. He golfs and I craft! No grandchildren yet, but we are hopeful since we finally got Brian married. Brent is still running too fast to get caught.

Ron Johnson

Favorite Memory
Being one of the smallest guys in the school. Being good friends with Calvin Massey, Jim Curtis, Gil Dovalina, Jerry McClenaghan. Of course, many of my fondest memories are of the many cross country and track meets I had the privelege of participating in representing Desert.

Biography
After I left Desert, I attended AVJC for a couple years, running cross country and track. I actually had dreams of the Olympics until reality set in running against the "big boys" in college. Rather than being drafted, I enlisted in the Air Force in October 1965 and retired after 21 years of service. I am now employed with the State of California working for the State Board of Equalization in Sacramento as a training coordinator. I am married (23 years) and have two wonderful step children and 3 grandsons. I have returned to running (not competitively) and have completed 4 marathons and numerous half marathons. I recently bought a motorhome and am spending many weekends in Tahoe and the foothills surrounding the Sacramento valley.
