Attending a small school allowed us to be involved in everything. Participate in sports, play in the band and know everyone in school. Teachers as well as classmates.

Biography
After graduation, I joined the Navy and spent three of my four year in the Far East. I married Kris Harrington of Lancaster in 1975 and we have three sons, Vince, Camron and Jacob. I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a BA in Recreation Administration and currently work for the City of Sacramento. I'm Camp Manager for a Family Camp & Conference Center in the Lake Tahoe area called Camp Sacramento http://www.sacto.org/nsd/campsac. Kris and I have lived in the Sacramento area (Cameron Park) since 1990, moving up from the Central Coast. I would love to hear from any of you who lived and grew up at Edwards from 1953 to 1962.

Biography
I guess I was a nerd, not sure! Went on to college-went to work in the Banking industry (spent 24 years at it!). Got rightsized, got divorced, have 2 of the greatest kids in the world (no longer kids though!) Found a second life working for the US Treasury Dept doing a lot of travel regulating the Banking industry. Currently living in Glendale, CA and have just about had enough of it. Starting to look for a way to move back to SF/Bay area. Current interest: Fine Wine, competitive skeet/trap shooting, getting son thru last year of college. Unattached and uncommited but always looking.

Biography
Attended LA County General School of Nursing for one year, then worked for NASA at the "Patch". Married in '64, thinking I had seen it all/knew it all. Left Antelope Valley in '65, vowing never to return except to visit family. Spent the next 15 yrs in Connecticut, raising two wonderful sons, finally getting my AA in Bus Admin (of all things).

Where am I now? Back in AV and it continually amazes me the number of DHS grads that are here STILL. I own an employment agency and a consulting business, both of which are on the market, cause honest, even though there is much beauty here and many old friends, I find in my "advanced" years that I want green and water and no WIND. On the personal side, life seems to go in cycles for me...married young to a terrific fellow (the father of my boys)John/Connecticut. Divorced, my choice, needed to do some growing up. Exactly 20yrs later, to the day, married again to another John/Connecticut/Engineer (first mistake)/Test Pilot (second mistake), two egos of that size do not work well under one roof.

So here I am almost to the end of another 20 yr cycle. Have grown up somewhat, but that "inner child" still seems to rule. Have discovered that each day is filled with blessings too numerous to mention, each encounter is a life lesson in some form (good/bad/indifferent)and God willing I will have many more days on this wonderful path of learning. I am still a sentimental fool of sorts, love music of all kinds, hate TV except for a couple of favorites, read excessively, play with this darn computer and travel. I am blessed with 3 wonderful grandsons. Cooper aged 2 (son Bill and wife Di) and twins, Tyler and Will aged 1 (son J and wife Linda). All live in Connecticut where J is an Architect (soon to be Design Team Leader for the Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, CA) and Bill is once again a student on Dean's List at Albertus Magnus.

We lost my Dad in 1986, but Mom is still going strong at 76, living in Las Vegas. Brothers Jesse and Rich (he is much younger) still live here, between them they have 3 boys and 2 girls. Brother John is in Pittsbury CA, 5 girls and 1 boy. If I have learned one lesson in this glorious life it is "I can't control the winds, but I surely can adjust my sails". Closing this with hopes of many blessings for all of you out there. We were surely blessed with one huge wonderful family at DHS.

Just an update. The Y2K Reunion was one of the best. Dave and crew, what a grand job. I surely enjoyed the "kicked-back" approach with the schedule "open". Finally made my great "escape" to water and green. Living on top of a hill in Oceanside, CA...sea breeze, wonderful canyon view and lots of flowers and trees. The only brown I see is the trim on the house. Am working for one of the biggest Travel and Cruise Agencies in San Diego County, at least I was. Right now am on "medical"...klutz that I am, I tripped on some raised concrete a the center where I work and am now home recuperating from a fractured femur. Have a right leg full of "new age metal" and in the process of learning to "walk" again. For someone who is expert at "running", this is a whole new ball game. To all of you that made the reunion, thank you for the grand trip back down memory lane. Even if you can't go back, you can make brief return journeys. To those of you who weren't there, I'll bet your ears were burning. We remembered you all, shared some great stories, but most of all, rediscovered that long ago "family" that has travelled far and wide. Anyone visiting San Diego area, I have two spare rooms and love showing folks all that we have to offer in our own little paradise. Anita

Summer Nights and Great Friends

Biography
Seems like only yesterday that I was at a DHS reunion. Yet, upon reflection it was many, many years ago. There is really far too much to tell here, but I offer a few "tidbits" for your amusement.

Presently I split my time between Colorado Springs, Co. and Arlington, Va. Iím actually in Arlington three weeks out of four. I run a business area for a large non-profit public research company headquartered in Arlington, VA. Earlier this fall I ìretiredî from Hughes Aircraft. I used to always think that ìretirementî meant that you sit in a rocker or play golf. But for us boomers (and near boomers), it just means that we can draw two paychecks and follow our dreams and passions. I guess thatís something that most of our parents did not have the luxury of doing. After nearly twenty years with Hughes including assignments in Arlington, Los Angeles, Alabama, Colorado, and California I am having a blast working for a non-profit company. Pleasure trips this past year included three dive trips to Caribbean and Hawaii, a four day Thanksgiving weekend in Rome, and New Years in Florida on the beach. Vital information: no wife, no kids, no dogs or cats, four cars, two houses, one apartment, four brief cases, five computers, one farm, and 1.5 million frequent flyer miles.

For those of you that remember my mother, sheís still as feisty as she always was. Sheís living in an assisted living facility in Colorado Springs and still loves to argue politics and religion. I guess some things never seem to change. She still remembers each and every one of you with love and fondness. As a young man, it was always hard to accept my momís involvement in so many ìteenageî things at Edwards. Now I more clearly understand and appreciate the commitment and deep love that she had for all of us. Iím sure she would want me to pass on her love and hugs to each of you.

I too remember each of you. I have always felt passionate about my friends and my years on Edwards at DHS. I hope I get to see you ALL soon.

Telephone numbers: Arlington, Virginia 703-416-8406 (work) Arlington, Virginia 703-812-5931 (home) Colorado Springs 719-447-9466 (home sometimes)

Favorite Memory
Friends in a remote area and the excitement of being part of history (i.e. X15, test flight school, Chuck Yaeger, etc.), living at Edwards AFB. (didn't appreciate the significance at the time)

Biography
After high school, moved to San Francisco. No -- I wasn't a hippy but my husband (met him at Edwards while he was working at Bendix Field Engineering) and I did live right in Haight Ashbury in the 60's but we managed to survive and have been married 35+ years (but whose counting).

We have moved from coast to coast several times over the years and presently live in Clearwater, Florida. We have one daugther, Leslie and two beautiful grandchildren who all live in Charleston, South Carolina.

I have been working at Xerox Corporation for the past twenty-four years and no I don't plan to work another century but I love my job and probably will continue for.....

When I lived in San Diego in the 80's I was in contact with Jimmy Curtis and Calvin Massey and we would meet for lunch from time to time talking about the old times but I have lost touch with these guys and would love to hear from them.

Nicki (Shaffer) Altomondo

Favorite Memory
There was a lot of school spirit because our social life revolved around school activities; attending football, basketball or baseball games, school dances and proms. Transforming the gym into some magical place. My favorite teachers were Mrs Lindsey and Mr Starr. The music was the best, especially for slow dancing. And of course a desert memory wouldn't be complete without "The Wind", I never was able to have "a good hair day!"

Met and married my husband Richard while living and working at Edwards. We have moved often since then (Connecticut, Delaware, Texas, Delaware again, Michigan, upstate New York, Kentucky, Alabama, and currently live in Tennessee. I worked as a secretary for three years and then have been a stay-at-home mom to our two children, Jennifer and Chris. That was twelve years ago and I've never gotten back to my studies. Our family now includes two grandchildren, Katy and Landon, in addition to two dogs and a cat.
